Why isn't Adoption.com a non-profit?

In the field of adoption, adoption agencies are normally non-profit organizations, and perform tasks such as writing homestudies, matching, counseling, taking custody of children, social work, post-placement studies, etc.

Adoption.com and Adoption Media, LLC are not adoption agencies and do not perform any of these tasks. Adoption Media is a media company that produces adoption-related Web sites such as Adoption.com, and informative media such as our weekly eMagazine.

Media companies are very rarely non-profit organizations; however, the vast majority of content and services on Adoption.com and Adoption Media Web sites is provided as free community services, such as our photolisting of adoptable kids, adoptee/birthfamily registry, forums, and our adoption library.
