You and your friend can jointly contact an adoption agency or adoption attorney and indicate that you both want this placement (known as an “identified” or “designated” adoption).

You will still need to have a homestudy and you and your friend will need to meet all other requirements for counseling, pre-adoption education, and any others required by the adoption professional and state law.

My friend and I have jointly raised her 12-year-old children. She agrees that I can adopt the children, but does not want to give up her own parental rights. Can i adopt, so we will both be legal parents, even though not married? #1

Hello. We live in Iowa and my friend is a single mother of 2 young girls and she is wanting to know what the process and prices would be for my boyfriend and I to adopt her youngest daughter(almost a year old). We both don't want her to have to give her rights up and her daughter be put into foster care so we're looking at all her options. Please give me any and all information you can regaurding this matter. Thank you! #2
